Date: 18.9.2024 – 22.9.2024

On September 18, our school’s students embarked on a five-day STEAM experience at the Tokyo Maker Faire for in-depth learning in technology. The exchanges focused on Japanese science and technology, allowing deep knowledge exploration and experiential learning, culminating in participation in the Tokyo Maker Faire 2024.
The Tokyo Maker Faire 2024 was held at Tokyo BIG SIGHT, where students confidently presented their hard work to an international audience. They were fortunate to introduce their projects to Gareth Stockdale, the CEO of Micro:bit. Some students communicated in Japanese with local people for the first time. Additionally, students had the opportunity to appreciate and learn from numerous creative technological works at the venue, inspiring innovative thinking and enriching their technological knowledge.

During a series of experiences in technology and culture, students visited Japan’s highest institution, the University of Tokyo, and were personally guided by a professor from the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, which ignited their determination to pursue higher achievements in STEAM research. Students also visited the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, Tokyo Miniature World Museum, Sensoji Temple, Nakamise Shopping Street, the Rainbow Bridge Sewer Museum, the Ariake Recycling Center of the Tokyo Waterworks Bureau, and the AVATAR ROBOT CAFE DAWN VER.B, among others. Through various new experiences and attempts, students gained a comprehensive understanding of the local level and applications of STEAM while personally experiencing Japanese society and culture.

This valuable overseas experience not only enhances the students’ STEAM skills but also cultivates their confidence and international perspective, improving their qualities as global citizens. For the students, the insights and knowledge gained during these five days were not just a journey of learning STEAM knowledge but also an integral part of their personal growth.
