Expanding Horizons: Introducing the International Advanced Level (IAL) Curriculum

At Man Kwan Pak Kau College, our core mission is to empower every student to achieve their fullest potential. We are committed to this goal by continuously enhancing our academic offerings to best prepare our graduates for the future.

After extensive research and planning, we are proud to announce the introduction of the International Advanced Level (IAL) curriculum, starting with Form 5 in the 2025-2026 school year. This new pathway provides a specialized option for students with a strong aptitude for mathematics and science, allowing them to delve deeper into these subjects. The IAL program is also an excellent choice for those who prefer an academic focus less centered on extensive language assessments.

While MKPC is, and will continue to be, a school where the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) is the primary curriculum, we are excited to offer this alternative. It provides a valuable and recognized route for students to pursue their unique strengths and aspirations.

By broadening our curriculum, we ensure a more personalized educational experience, tailored to individual needs and academic goals. We remain dedicated to working in partnership with our students, parents, alumni, and the wider community to help each student choose the pathway that leads to a brighter and more successful future.

Note on English Language Qualification: IAL students will take the IELTS examination to fulfill university English language requirements. The college will provide full support to students throughout this process.

University Pathways with IAL

The IAL qualification is widely recognized and provides excellent opportunities for tertiary education.

  • Hong Kong Universities: All UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong accept IAL qualifications. Applicants are assessed under the non-JUPAS scheme, with each institution employing its own specific evaluation criteria—similar to the process for DSE applicants.
  • Early Admission: Many local universities offer early admission schemes based on prior exam results or predicted grades, a standard practice also used for university applications in the United Kingdom.

This makes the IAL a robust and attractive alternative for students targeting top universities in Hong Kong and abroad.
